Below are questions commonly asked by our volunteers. If you don’t find the answer to your question here, please don’t hesitate to contact us
How do I sign up to volunteer?
We ask that you first attend a new volunteer orientation, after which you will be able to volunteer at the store or the build sites.
What days can I volunteer?
Construction volunteering is available Tuesday thru Saturday year-round. When you volunteer, we ask that you commit to a full day. The construction day is 8:30am-2:30pm.
Store volunteering is available Monday – Saturday 8:30 – 6:00pm. There is no minimum time commitment; if you have a hour, a few hours or a few days, we would love to have you.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
Construction volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. If a volunteer is under the age of 18 they must be accompanied by a parent or designated individual who is at least 21 years old.
What should I wear?
We require volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and shirts with sleeves. For your comfort we ask that you wear appropriate clothing for the weather and any construction tasks (painting, etc.). Please also consider that as a volunteer you’ll be representing Habitat for Humanity and should choose clothing that in no way would be considered offensive.
Is lunch provided?
At the construction site lunch is not provided Tuesday thru Friday. Volunteers should bring lunch Tuesday thru Friday. Lunch is provided on Saturday. We do suggest volunteers bring a refillable water jug anytime they are on the site.
At the store lunch is not provided.
What tools do I need to bring?
All tools will be provided. You may bring your own, but it is not necessary. If you choose to bring your own tools, we suggest you clearly mark them with your name, etc.
What if I want to organize a group to volunteer?
We love it when groups volunteer. To schedule a group to volunteer, we suggest that you contact our Community Builder Odessa Kawai at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 360-479-3853. All groups should plan on booking at least a month in advance to schedule an orientation and book a volunteer date.
